Ankara Wax fabric care

Ankara Wax fabric care

Wax or Ankara fabric, like all textiles, requires special care.

First Wash:

During the first wash, your fabric may bleed (release dye). It is strongly advised not to soak fabrics with dominant red or blue colors, as they are often heavily pigmented. We recommend washing your fabric by hand in cold water.

If you prefer to use a washing machine, place only the fabric in the machine and run a cycle at a maximum of 30°C (86°F). After the first wash, you can safely wash your fabric at 30°C (86°F) with other items without worrying about dye bleeding.

Remember to Never use bleach.

How to Remove Adhesive Labels:

If your fabric, especially a complete piece, has adhesive labels, here’s how to remove them:

1. Using Boiling Water and a Sponge:

Boil some water and get a sponge.

Dip the sponge in the boiling water (be careful not to burn yourself) and dab the underside of the fabric where the label is located.

Flip the fabric over and dampen the label directly.

You should now be able to remove the label easily, without forcing it.

2. Using a Hairdryer:

Heat the underside of the fabric where the label is located using a hairdryer.

The label will peel off effortlessly, without any resistance.

How to Remove Residual Glue:

If some glue remains after removing the label, try one of these methods:

Use water and soap.

Rub with a white school eraser.

Use a textile-safe solvent like “dry-cleaning fluid.”

Rub thoroughly until the fabric no longer feels sticky. Complete these steps before washing your wax fabric, whether by hand or in a machine.
